Where can I find the Ubuntu server manual?
Good day.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the server, there was an idea to start the ftp service and that would be enough, but the system works disgustingly, although I installed all the updates, and even looked for the necessary drivers. Apparently I made a big mistake with the choice of axis. I decided to approach the issue with all seriousness and install ubuntu server. What are your opinions about her? In fact, I need an ftp server (not a screw one, otherwise everything would be simple).
The server is not very powerful, here are some characteristics:
- intel xeon up 2.4ghz
- RAM = 4 Gb
- Raid 1 + 0
I must say right away that I am a beginner "linukhovod", and I don’t know many subtleties, so I ask you to give an answer more or less expanded or share links with useful information.
Thank you all in advance.

That is, ubuntu.ru with their forum and unutu.com (if you read in English) are not enough for you?
Do you ONLY need an FTP server? and nothing more?
then install ubuntu minimal and then only what you need.
well, or on top of the minimum
sudo apt-get install tasksel
sudo tasksel
this is such a pseudo-graphical choice of server roles, it’s very convenient
according to the config - your piece of iron is enough to serve half the world via FTP :)
there would be a wide channel
proftpd gets up and runs without problems on ubuntu, instructions on the Internet are a wagon and a small cart.
demolish ubuntu, install debian (the same ubuntu is only more stable)
if it is difficult to do everything in the console, install a simple graphical shell
a) install debian
b) read at least a Russian-language handbook on debian, or the original one in angelic.
c) profit.
Install Debian
Install proftp.d (FTP daemon)
Install samba for internal access. (File trash daemon)

smb-conf. en
Config files can be sent to the mail.
All configuration goes from the smb.conf (samba) and proftpd.conf (FTPdaemon) files
Well, plus the differentiation of rights, the creation of users in passwd.conf
