Where and how is it safer to store your personal, confidential files, spicy photos, secret materials?

Where and how is it better - safer, more reliable to store your personal, confidential files, spicy photos, secret materials?
cloud - what and how to encrypt files
flash drive - set a password with self-destruction
something else .. which is more reliable?
The option not to store this is understandable, but still. What is your experience?

Security is a matter of user authentication and the choice of file access tool, while reliability is a matter of technology choice.
Ready-made solutions are usually noticeably expensive, especially when it comes to large volumes. Those. yes, cloud solutions give access with a password, and are relatively but not absolutely reliable (the service is in fact not responsible for the data, even if you pay).
If your volumes are on the order of hundreds of gigabytes or several terabytes, there is nothing better than your system. It is not necessary to set up a whole file server, you can get by with simple connected drives (do not care if these are flash drives or hard drives), but I strongly recommend using not one device but several (RAID 1,5,6, ...). Support for RAID and encryption is available in all modern popular operating systems, so with a few moves of the mouse you can set up the same mirroring and raise encryption so that you need to enter a password to access files.
