Password storage
Swasher, 2014-07-16 01:02:20

Where and how do you store information about your IT infrastructure?

Over time, servers accumulate - at home, at work, vps, virtual machines, all sorts of boxes like routers, media players, smart switches, etc. Services are spinning on each of them, ports are open and ported, services have logins, passwords or keys, there can be connections between them, and so on.
On Toster and similar resources, the question "where to store passwords" often appears, but the matter is not limited to passwords, I just want a description of the structure - the internal work of "units" and the connections between "units".
The ideal service, in my opinion, would be:
- the client should be on the desktop (Linux, Windows) and on the phone (iOs, Android)
- the clients should be able to synchronize (via a personal server or external service)
- there should be a simple device map using like The Dude
- each device has arbitrary fields for records
- strong encryption
- no need: integration with the browser, auto-completion of fields
- open source
So far I have settled on SafeWallet for myself. He does not answer even half the points, but at least the information is always at hand.
How do you solve this issue for yourself?

No one knows the answer to this question, because these are purely internal things that may be dictated by the conditions of the company or not, and she does not care about the conditions, because this is the organization of the internal working order of a person and getting into it means "know how to do it."

See the article about the Appnestic service . They, unfortunately, do not have a free plan, but they have their own host network editor, with the ability to specify different parameters for each. Maybe if you talk to the author @chuck , he will be able to offer something.

What for? The fact is that describing the entire network makes sense only if you quit. And so it all lies well in her head. And memory develops. ))
Well, if you're being serious. I have a network diagram in the form of a picture, in Zabbix. There is nothing special to hide there, and access from everywhere is unnecessary. And if necessary, there is a VPN. So there is nothing in the clouds.
Passwords and appearances are all in my head. And those that you don’t need to keep in your head, in an xls-file in a safe place))
I don’t suffer from phobias, so I don’t worry too much about encryption. The main thing is to protect access to data from everyone. Leave only for yourself. Plus, I created a couple of accounts for the "boss" and sealed them in an envelope ... he has it in his safe. This is in case the tram runs over me.
Generally . I won't take anything out. All information is available only from the workplace. But if necessary, I connect to it via VPN. Something like this.
PS. I forgot one moment. There is such software Evernote . So it is very convenient to store records in it. NO PASSWORD!!! And the records. Well, for example, instructions on how to set up this or that ... Or just links. It is convenient because the software uses the cloud, and what you write on your computer can be read on your phone or tablet. Plus you can share with other people.

All schemes and passwords must be kept in mind, if there are a lot of passwords - create "keys" for passwords and write in an incomprehensible language, or rather sweat only to you.

A bunch of Evernote + Mindmeister helps me a lot. And of course, Moleskin, who is always with me.
