When installing Linux Ubuntu on Virtual Box the question appears "erase disk and install Ubuntu", I highlighted part of the partition...?

When installing Linux Ubuntu in Virtual Box, there is a question "erase the disk and install Ubuntu", I have a partition in windows where there is free space in it, part of the partition on windows is free, and the second part is with files. Do I understand correctly that the 20 gigabytes that I allocated for the Ubuntu virtual machine, they will fill the free space on the windows partition, and my other files will not be erased on the partition? Or do you need to create a separate partition in Windows for a virtual machine, and store and create a virtual machine there?

When you created a virtual machine, you also created a virtual hard disk. Those. let's just say that a large file was created, which is in fact a hard drive.
Everything you do in the virtual machine only applies to this file. So there is no need to be afraid.

The virtual hard disk will be erased. And a virtual hard disk is usually a separate file on a physical hard disk (to hook up a partition on a real hard disk to virtualbox, you need to pervert through the console, you won’t be able to do it by accident)
