Since when did Android x86 become Android x86-64?

I'm using Genymotion. I found out that for some reason it creates the Other Linux 64-bit virtual machine for Android 5.0 and above, and Other Linux 32-bit for Android 4.4 and below.
(Thus, I cannot emulate 5.0 and higher on VPSs whose processor does not support virtualization, but this is another question.)
Why is there such a milestone on this particular version?
Or is it the pens of Genymotion itself?

I don’t know what you can’t do there, but just the same, without using hardware virtualization, you can emulate almost any guest on any host.
But hardware virtualization imposes restrictions on one platform.
