Bought this one recently. There was a site of a small company that ceased to exist at the beginning of the summer. The site did not work, registration expired at the end of autumn. After the expiration date, the domain for a month is not available for re-registration. By chance, a week before the release, I saw it, applied for the minimum price and received it.

When the paid term of the domain expires, it goes into an intermediate state for a month. Only after this month it becomes available for re-registration. The owner is given this month to still pay for the domain and get it back. In fact, if the current owner has even the slightest desire to keep the domain, then it is very difficult to lose it. The end date of this period (something like free-date) will be indicated in whois for the entire month.
After this month, the domain will be sent for deletion. Domains from the general database of domain names are removed not by registrars, but centrally by the organization responsible for the entire RU zone - the Coordinating Center for the national Internet domain, or, more precisely, its daughter - CJSC "Technical Center Internet". The process of deleting domains starts at 17:00 Moscow time on weekdays and lasts for some time. No more than 15,000 domains are deleted daily.
