What hardware do you need for your DNS server?

I'm wondering if I put my dns on the vps-ku so that it is used instead of the provider's dns server, then what configuration is needed to handle about 2-3 thousand users. And how to calculate resources depending on the number of new users. Thank you.

The home toaster will pull. Caching DNS is demanding only for cache memory, otherwise it is unpretentious. For 5000+ online users I spend:
1623 bind 20 0 289m 124m 2260 R 4.1 6.1 198:28.35 named
1624 bind 20 0 289m 124m 2260 S 4.1 6.1 198:00.62 named
1626 bind 20 0 289m 124m 2260 S 1.5 6.1 66:52.76 named
And this is for a fat bind, there are less voracious solutions, it spins in general on a virtual machine.

I have one on a virtual machine. Here are the characteristics:
HDD -10Gb
RAM - 512Mb
NIC - 100Mbit
CPU - virtual analogue of Pentium 3
DNS - the most undemanding service. Do not worry, put the cheapest option.
