What you need from Xamarin on a computer (Win.) to start developing simple mobs. applications?

Hello,
help me figure out a dark forest for me:
I want to try to make a simple application using Xamarin. I thought there was Xamarin Studio (as for Android Android Studio) and that's it. An no. There's also Xamarin.Forms, Xamarin.Android, Cloud... Then, I didn't find a separate Xamarin Studio for Windows for download (although it seems to be available for Mac), but I found that Xamarin is now part of Visual Studio, tk. was bought by them.
So what is needed? Visual Studio and all? Why then Forms and Xamarin.Android?

put Visual Studio, when choosing components, try to proceed from the principle of "discard everything that is not clear" - it is easier to reinstall than to clean

As an IDE, you need Visual Studio. Everything you need for development is included. You need to install (reinstall) xamarin mobile application development support.
