Linux with LXDE or Xfce desktop environment.
If Windows is so fundamental to you, then there is no point in putting anything "above" XP.

64 bits can be installed if the RAM is 4GB or higher.
On your 2 GB 32-bit install.

Windows XP will work fine.
It is possible Windows 7 x32, but there will be brakes.
Of course, it depends more on what you are going to do with it.

well, it's not such a bad computer, set the seven to x32, you just need to optimize it a little, and if you consider that xp is no longer supported, then it makes no sense to set it, even browsers are not updated there

Windows XP or 7 is optimal.
The speed is the same. Of course 32bit.
Although in general it should be understood that the installed OS does not affect the speed of applications in any way.
By itself, any OS on such hardware will work pretty fast.
But running resource-intensive applications like a browser will already be big problems.
Nowadays, for comfortable work with the browser, you need at least 8GB of memory.

There is a LITE version of WIN 8 (all MS services are cut out), it works well on a weak computer.
But Linux is better.
