What utility to monitor traffic to use?

Hello!
I have an application (on a server ubunt) accessing a third party IP. I want to see in real time how many requests the application makes to this API (it has a fixed IP). You can watch the number of open sockets to this API, or somehow monitor traffic. What tool can be used to view this?
