What torrent client would you recommend instead of uTorrent?
In my opinion, uTorrent has recently become significantly "fat". What would you advise a little, without ads and dependencies on other programs for Windows?

Also interested in the answer to this question. However, when looking for alternatives, I had multiple problems, for example, µTorrent is the only client that does not transmit the passkey in clear form if it is part of the url, the standard does not require this, however, de facto many trackers, for example, Rutracker, generate exactly such torrents.
I myself am now sitting on a self-patched version. It cuts off unnecessary resources for all sorts of "bells and bells", advertising sections, the client code is deeply patched from rubbish, and also for the plus version, the functions of the extended version are not needed for me. In addition to the patch and relief, they are also finely tuned, including hidden settings that remove everything superfluous, reduce resource consumption, and change various little things for convenience. I generally like the 3.4.x branch because the logic of working with peers has been changed there and the client first of all downloads from closer peers (to which there are fewer hops, more details here), as well as a DDoS protection system and some other goodies. I also like the interface of the latest versions due to the fact that there is a search in the list of torrents, when adding a download, you can select the name of the distribution and some other nice little things.
It looks like this:
I would also recommend adding some significant IP filter to any version of any client, so that various inadequate representatives of humanity do not clog the channel with garbage.
Current (recommended) Version 3.5.5.45988 (archived 3.5.5.45952, 3.5.5.45798, 3.5.5.45628, 3.5.5.45291, 3.5.4.44632, 3.5.3.44396, 3.5.3.4435, 3.5.1.4433, 3.4.2.3.4435, 3.4.2.3433 , build date 2020.12.27, includes more optimized settings for a wide range of users and a guide that will be useful for both beginners and more experienced users.
You can download from Rutracker . The assembly now lives there, there is also a full description of all changes and a normal header. I will continue to write about updates here anyway, don't worry!
The assembly, in an abbreviated form, i.e. without previous versions of executable files and settings, can also be downloaded without a torrent client from wdfiles, however, if possible, it is recommended to download the distribution. The link on the exchanger is mainly intended for those who use the client for the first time.
The chosen solution with the uTorrent patch is certainly nice, but...
My solution is qBittorrent. Warm and light, like the first versions of uTorrent ;-)
No crutches and no dependence on developers who lost their trust.
I use µTorrent 2.0.4 with update check disabled. It already has support for UDP trackers, but the interface is still old, tube-like.
I recently found a good client - https://www.tixati.com/
Everything you need and nothing more.
The only negative is no Russian language
Why does transmission not suit you? Small, that it is wrapped in routers, there is a port for Windows.
The remaining ~74 alternatives, incl. download managers
with torrent support, web torrent services, etc.
qBitTorrent - there are problems while downloading. Sometimes it shuts up and stops pumping. Or does not shake at all in principle. For the sake of interest, I tried to pass these "non-downloadable" ones through uTorrent Web - they downloaded right there without any problems.
