You need to choose a topic that is simpler, and spend your free time on work, on solving real problems. You can, of course, choose a practical topic, about what is required in real projects. But if a dude came to me for an interview and said "I know what you are talking about, I wrote a diploma on this topic", then I would still not really trust his knowledge. Another thing is "I used it in such and such a project."
