As a cyclist, I can suggest taking one of the popular web frameworks and figure something out yourself. First, roll up a blog, and then screw the necessary Wishlist to it.
The disadvantages are obvious - it will take time and the ability to burn out.

If the public database is Wordpress. Add the right content types with the right fields and you'll be good to go.
