What to write a program for a term paper?

Good evening.
The university asked a term paper on the topic "Cross-Platform Application Development".
The essence of the work is the implementation of a Java program that works on several platforms.
The manager told me to think about what kind of program I would write. I would like to consult the community about what can be done that is useful and not very complicated, without inventing a bicycle.
Java knowledge is average

Some kind of intra-university messenger, with file storage and the possibility of sending them ... So that it would be convenient to send announcements to students through it, post the results of their assessments, conduct surveys, post educational materials.
