What to take a small-sized computer that could run modern indie games?

My Sega Megadrive 2 burned down yesterday. And it was decided to insert some computer into the case instead of a non-working board (there is a Raspberry Pi available), solder the SD reader contacts to the cartridge bus, and solder the SD card contacts to the cartridge board on the same tracks and, accordingly, place the card in the cartridge case (it will be possible to connect an additional SD-reader to USB). Well, to the ports of the joystick USD adapters from Segov's joeys.
So. Ideally, I would like to get a linux computer that can run games from the Humble Bundle library and from an SD card, or a simple Steam machine. Are there single board x86 computers of the right size?
If this cannot be done on x86, then what can you advise from ARM computers? Are there any good games for ARM-linux? Is it possible to make such a system on Android?

Take some nettop or netbook. I think their boards will fit inside a megadrive.

I did not find the size of the prefix anywhere on the net. It's hard to navigate without them.
The motherboard of a typical netbook will need to be about 27cm wide. I may be wrong, but it seems that SMD2 was somewhat narrower.
As an option - motherboard form factor Mini-ITX. 17x17cm, I think it can fit. There are two problems:
1. You need to come up with something with the power supply.
2. CPU cooling. You can simplify the solution of this problem by taking a mother with a pre-installed (soldered) Atom. They have reduced heat dissipation, you can try to fit some low-profile cooling system. Although, in my netbook, when the cooler is off, the temperature does not rise above 70, but I would not recommend allowing the processor to warm up like this on an ongoing basis.

Intel NUC and its clones follow.

There are games in the Humble Bundle that require a powerful processor and graphics card, and nettops can't handle them. For example, Saints Row 3.

That's about such nettops I'm talking about.

It seems like it should fit inside the shogi.
If you still want ARM, then think towards OUYA. But I would just make a rom emulator on the RPi.
