Choose a simpler window manager (like fluxbox / openbox), any terminal emulator, conky and almost any socket and have a good look at the configuration files of all this stuff. Only there is very little sense in this - most of these configs are made in order to take three screenshots for /r/unixporn , but in reality it is inconvenient to use this.
