What to study to become a pentester or network security?

Actually it was voiced in the title, but I repeat.
In the light of recent events, it becomes obvious that network security is taking the lead, and this is really interesting to me, that is, I see myself as a kind of white hacker (no matter how funny it sounds), but the desire is great. But there is a wall here in the form of the question of where to start, the emphasis on various programming languages is not the main factor here, as I understand it, but the problem itself is related to networks and various kinds of protocols.
In general, I would like to know from knowledgeable people what databases should be started to study and where to dig.
