Upwork

What to learn besides HTML, CSS, JS for freelancing on upwork?

Good day everyone!
I am a beginner front-end developer and I plan to look for a Junior Frontend job in six months,
I can’t go to the office earlier,
please advise how to most effectively invest 6-7 months of time, what to study and what to do.
I know HTML, CSS, JS - basics, actively studying (form validation, to-do list, tic-tac-toe, I can write a calculator, etc. simple),
I would ideally like to take simple orders for upwork (mostly for experience , although the money, of course, is not superfluous). English is ok.
What do I need to learn to do this? what kind of tasks in JS are often encountered?
plans to learn React, Node.js. But of course, the best way to learn is on "combat missions"
thanks in advance !!!

Good day.
Answering a question.
By the number of orders, at the moment, by the upwork, PHP / Wordpress / Laravel are popular with customers, WP is unrivaled.
In the JS side, there are many orders for React / Angular / Node.JS, less for Vue.
If we talk about what is needed, then starting from the very bottom of WP, there is nowhere to go now, just with HTML / CSS skills on the upwork, and in general, no one will be surprised.
On JS / React / Node.js, orders are higher level, without experience and a good portfolio, it is more difficult to take them than on the same WP.
Well, in general.
About perfect English - not true. Of course, it is necessary to know it, but the intermediate level is quite.
Regarding small bets and being the first - also, not really:
• Firstly, this is not a well-known garbage dump. Yes, customers are different, but the majority wants to pay a specialist, do not equate the mentality of a customer from the USA with ours, it does not fit that a specialist charges $ 5-8 per hour. On average, everyone starts in the range of $12-15, if you want, you can start with $5, but it’s better to get used to appreciating your work right away. And you will be appreciated in return. An example from experience is an order to install WP, and a theme without customization and other things went for $ 35 / hour, when asked why, the customer said, because I see what you can do in an hour, and a person will install it for me for a week for $ 7, maybe the customer is not right, but many have such a train of thought. I repeat, there are other cases, but then you can often see in the Job feed - "I give the upwork one last chance to do my job, the previous freelancer failed."
• Secondly, there must be a response within a certain time, usually the window is about 10 minutes. Your cover letter is lined up at the customer’s place in relation to your skills, portfolio, recent work, but it doesn’t depend on whether you answer first or tenth.
In no case, under any circumstances, do not work for a review and for a very small rate, there are a large number of scammers and bastards. Cases of work for $ 5 for two months - a lot. It all started with a small edit, and promises to leave a good review, and then in the process you learn what JSS is, what hidden reviews are. And so people worked.
Try to avoid customers from Pakistan, India. Try to avoid Russian speakers too, in general, look for orders in countries from Germany and to the west.
In any case, just somewhere in 6-8 months of training, you yourself will be answering this question to others. Good luck Marina!

You don't have to ask to learn more. Just get to work and do it. You will immediately have specific questions that you will already solve, look for ready-made answers, etc. After completing each such work task, all these moments that you solved, searched for, asked and sorted out are converted into invaluable experience.

Upwork only with good English, I would say with perfect (because it will be very difficult for you with poor or average English)! And tasks are found from the most primitive $5 to the most complex projects. And of course, at the beginning, set the minimum price for work / hour, and strive to be the first! Mostly small work is quickly taken away by the Indians.
