In my opinion, ASP.NET MVC will be more promising. Now more and more functionality is transferred from the desktop to the web, especially with regard to interaction with databases, more emphasis is placed on saas solutions, where there is a backend and there can be many different clients - web pages, mobile applications, standard desktop programs

Definitely MVC. You can forget about WPF - a good framework, but no one needs desktop applications now. Also look at WebAPI and WCF.

I tend to believe that Web applications are the future. Although not all problems can be solved with their help.
From my own experience I will say that WPF was used only a few times, for clients at workplaces where the functionality of working with local equipment was needed.
It all depends on the specific task, and for it it is already necessary to select implementation options.
