What to keep in git'e when working with wordpress?

There is a site whose engine is wp, but it is hung with self-written plugins and a theme that are regularly updated.
Now in git'e it's just the whole site (without the upload folder), how to set it up correctly? What to keep in git'e in that case?

Keep there the files you are working on.
Everything third-party (engine, frameworks, libraries, content) should be downloaded only if you are going to edit it.
