What to choose as a thesis at a small university?

Good afternoon.
I am approaching the 3rd year of a small university (a provincial town for 500k)
Specialty - "Information Systems and Technologies".
I have no desire to do something large-scale as part of my thesis work - according to the experience of familiar graduates, this is unjustified work, the more work - the more documentation you need to write for it, but I had enough coursework.
Interested in web development, I want to take something simple and interesting, most of us take all sorts of configurations for 1C - so the department will approve any at least a little interesting thing on the web. The frontend has knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript (jQuery of course). On the PHP backend, I mastered Codeigniter and Yii2 - but without real tasks, I study rather poorly.
I understand that this may not be enough, so I’m ready to learn new things, if you have suggestions not for php, but for example for asp .net or python + django, or in general for something that I’m close to unfamiliar with - I’ll be glad if only the idea satisfies my request (simplicity and solves an interesting problem).

It will be possible to implement this project with sufficient ingenuity, and will not have high requirements for layout and design. In my university, on the contrary, the development of commercial projects was welcomed. The student himself finds a place for work practice (if he does not find it himself, then they help him find it at the department). Then he finds what to do at the place of practice.
For example, I am also from a small town (300k), but with a promoted federal university. The place of practice from 3-4 courses did not bring any project. I found another organization already in the 5th year, when it was already running out. Implemented workspace automation for employees. Until now, they have been working in a successfully implemented project for 5 years already :) And there was a desktop application on .NET + MSSQL.
