What to check for a secure VPS setup?

Good evening.
In general, I'm here playing with a server from digital ocean. Previously, I rarely encountered dedicated servers, but then I decided to try it, in order to at least know how it works. I read all sorts of guides and stuff. Can anyone offer a proven list of actions to maximize the security of the server being raised, with almost zero skill of the customizer?

You can add only that you should trust the developers of the distribution and not lean on changing the configuration files. It’s definitely NOT worth it to mindlessly copy entire configs from blog posts, because outright nonsense often comes across there and most of this nonsense is long outdated.

prohibit login as root, create a super user, allow login via ssx only on a specific port. Everything is as described in the docs.

I don’t know what to check, but my HYIP was broken until I switched to abusehoster.ru , it works without errors and hacks.
