What technology to choose for creating small cross-platform desktop applications?

What technology to choose for writing small-scale and, preferably, cross-platform desktop applications? The main purpose of these applications is the exchange of data with various devices via USB or COM and their subsequent processing. While in mind JavaFX (I worked with it a little, but faced the fact that there are few libraries for working with serial ports) and Qt.

Well, take the normal decisions. If language skills allow. You can also look towards python with interface on Qt/wxWidgets

To each his own. I would choose Lazarus/FreePascal
