What system resources does FileVault use?

Hello tech world!
I have a MacBook Pro 2012 500 MB HDD.

Now it often slows down, but not very critical - mostly on Microsoft Office, ordinary browser functions work fine.
Question: will this encryption have a worse effect on the work of the beech? Now it has not yet completed (recently reinstalled the OS). Turn it off in the future, or after the completion of the general encryption, the system will give a bit of speed?
