What should you read before you start working on a web application?

I understand that the question is hackneyed, but I can not find a suitable answer.
I do not understand how you can read manuals and manuals.
More interesting literature.
Read Rework and Getting real. I would like something similar, but from the field of web development and to be disassembled in detail and in stages. And at the end of the book there is a link to an archive with a ready-made application.
There is no development experience, so all pancakes are obtained first. Motivation disappears.
Has anyone come across the described book/books? A sort of instruction for developing an application for a million ;) I
use php, js, css and everything that follows, but I will be happy to read about development, for example, in ruby.

Go to meetups and conferences. More sense, you can just chat with the developer himself!

Padawan has two ways -
1) simple but difficult - to do only bicycles and only on his own, without libraries and frameworks
2) easy but hemorrhoid - after studying js-css-html, also learn the documentation for frameworks - that is, learn to work like everything according to the template
