What should an LMS be like?

I chose LMS as my thesis, but I don’t know what it should be, because it doesn’t end with an electronic journal, does it? Explain what requirements should be met, what modules should be, what would you like to see in the LMS?

For a long time as the user worked with one LMS. I'll tell you how I remember. I draw your attention to the fact that in a real LMS, some data is personal, subject to special protection / encryption. The project, ideally, should be available to everyone from tablets, phones, stationary PCs and information terminals (a la terminals near stores where you put money on your phone). Login/password authentication form. Integration with mail services and SMS distribution services. The application was designed for the following user groups:
1). Interface for the student.
View the schedule of subjects attached to homework files, the ability to send a finished assignment to the teacher, view grades for subjects by day or final / average grades. A truncated copy of the social network for correspondence on the topics of circles, extra classes and more.
2). Interface for the teacher.
An electronic journal with grades, a lesson plan with topics, the ability to mark some lessons for students as "control", "practical" or "normal". Appointment for any day of a special "event" for the class - Olympiad, subbotnik, excursion, etc. with the distribution of information on the profiles of parents and students.
3). Interface for parents.
Replicates the learner interface with the read-only adjustment. Possibility of closed correspondence with teachers and directors on private issues of the student. View medical card.
4). Interface for the doctor.
Contains information that duplicates the student's medical record. Schedule of vaccinations and other medical events.
5). Interface for HR officer / director.
Access to the management of personal affairs of all students, including applicants, and employees of the educational institution. The ability to enroll in an educational institution a student who applied through the Internet portal. Possibility to print documentation according to the forms approved by the Ministry of Education. Possibility to create a schedule for ALL educational institution for a given period.
6). Interface for the developer.
The ability to create reporting forms with the emblems of the educational institution with automatic insertion of names and details. Access control, administration.
To be honest, this already pulls for several diplomas. I think one scheduling algorithm is a diploma in itself. Even if he will work for a full-fledged educational institution for a day or two in a row.

I would recommend that you first study the existing LMS. At least three things. I am sure that you will then have ideas of what should be in the LMS.

I think the implementation of the ability to view the assigned homework - to the students, to edit - to the teacher, and that more mailings were made when the assignment was changed - was already pretty cool. Do it seriously, with the ability to attach materials (manuals, pictures), make convenient links to textbook paragraphs, etc. Well, everything else comes from here: not only an electronic journal, but also an electronic diary with fresh filling, and everything is as it should be: for androids, iOS and other shovel phones. Enough for a diploma, IMHO.
I'm saying this as an amateur, el. was not involved in training. This is what I would like and expect to see in such a system.
