What should a student majoring in Information Security focus on?

I have a friend who is a final year student in the specialty "Information Security". In the process of training, programming, networking, information security and legislation were superficially given.
The question is:
What is the best thing for him to do now, study in order to find a job after graduation? What to focus on? What are the current trends in IT now? I will be grateful for any advice.

On learning how to use Google, how to search for jobs, how to read what is required in vacancies.
I understand that they did not give anything at school. But didn't they instill at least some kind of independence at the institute?
