What should a Core/Systems Game Engine Programmer know?
What should a specialist in this field of gamedev know (except, of course, programming)? In what direction should a newbie move? And in general, what systems in the engine does he develop, and how far can he deviate from core development, for example, to physics? In my view, he must have knowledge of the operating systems for which the engine is being developed, the computer's memory device, and possibly mathematics.
