What Security Mechanisms integrate consensus algorithms?

What security mechanisms are used in consensus algorithms? I read information about multi-signature, ring, group, etc., but there was no information anywhere about which signature is used in which consensus algorithm. Please tell me or maybe there are some good articles, I will be very grateful!)

Security of what? from what?
The consensus algorithm, on the example of bitcoin, is a proof of work algorithm, the very mechanism that protects the blockchain from rewriting blocks by solving the problem of finding hashes with a certain number of zeros for an unpredictable choice of who is trusted to write the next block. There are no multi-signatures here... multi-signatures are an add-on to a ready-made blockchain.
And for example, in ripple, ledger or dpos is a set of agreements on the choice of delegates, whom everyone trusts, but who themselves may not trust each other (this does not work, by the way).

Consensus and protection can be more easily explained, then it will become clearer where to dig further, because in the current formulation of the question it is not entirely clear what it is about.
For example:
PoW protection - an attacker must have very large computing resources to attack the network. which is not economically viable.
PoS protection - an attacker must have significant amounts of funds in the coins of the network he is going to attack, which is not profitable, because. in the event of a successful attack, their cost will drop significantly.
etc.
