What search engine for php can be installed on a regular hosting (without root)?

Worked with Sphinx. Is there something similar, maybe not so fancy, but with Cyrillic support, so that you can put it on hosting?

well, not really, what's stopping you is just putting everything you need into the mysql database and using the built-in full-text search
