What's wrong with game development courses?
I thought about changing the type of activity to game dev. I started taking courses on devtudev and stepik. and most of the information is devoted to marketing and earnings analytics. Does everything in gamedev really come down to monetization or am I watching the wrong courses?

Good courses are rare. Oddly enough, there are much more interesting materials on programming and game design on YouTube.
Programming: Brackeys , Jason Weimann , Game Maker's Toolkit game design (nothing to do with the famous engine).
A year ago, I took a course on Netology , and although there were useless things, you can get quite a lot of knowledge there.
Marketing and analytics are also needed, of course, but I don't think that the authors of FTL, Into The Breach, Stardew Valley looked at trends much.
No. Not everything comes down to monetization. Most likely you are just watching the wrong courses, besides, for example, I make games for the soul, there is no monetization in them.
