Project management

What questions should I ask in an interview for an IT project manager job?

Good afternoon,

We are expanding and we want to hire a manager who would combine project management (Ruby on Rails / iOS) and search for new orders (mainly on freelance exchanges). We work remotely with clients from the US and the UK.

Interested in if there are any best practices for conducting such interviews?

Thanks
Andrey.

(1) This knowledge of the English language - as a rule, a fluent reading of the text on IT topics will not be a problem
(2) All managers must be able to conduct business negotiations - regulations, business etiquette, etc. (without this it will be difficult with serious customers)
(3) for iOS - it is desirable to have the device itself (any), knowledge of interface guides and the main features of the system (so that it doesn’t happen - that the manager promised mountains of gold that cannot be done)
(4) for RoR — performance, knowledge of the main modules and weaknesses/strengths of the RoR application
(5) in person, like any manager — knowledge of decomposition and division of labor methods
(6) the ability to correctly “require” with a Senior Developer :)
(7) know and be able to check unit tests - without this, assessing the quality of the product in the process will be problematic

Are you trying to combine the duties of a project manager and a salesperson?

I always ask the two most important tricky questions, here is such a project, what methodology would you choose for its implementation, well, throw in a plan.
The second question is what to do if you are at this point and there is so much time left, but you do not have time for projects.

In general, I got the feeling that you are trying / advising you from three people - PM, Sales and TeamLead. It is the latter that builds and development processes.
And as their 5 kopecks - burning eyes, a broad outlook, an extrovert, but not a chatterbox, punctuality.
