What programs are now making 2D 3D cartoons?

Greetings, I asked myself this question, in what programs are cartoons and animations made now. Are Blender, Maya, 3dmax relevant now? And if now any modern books on creating cartoons?

3D - 3Dmax, blender. I advise the latter, since it is free, but in terms of functionality it is not inferior to its counterparts, according to the comments on the network. Never used the first one.
you can do it in blender and 2d, by the way)
For 2d cartoons, I can only advise the latter flash (Like it's called flesh animator, I don't remember, to be honest) and anime studio. The first is easier, the second is more difficult, I tried it, choose what is closer to you.

PIxar describes the process of working with animation without mentioning specific tools other than their own RenderMan . He works with his own format, in which many 3D programs can output, and there is a plugin for Maya.
Walt Disney Animation Studios offer some of their own proprietary OpenSource developments .
