What program is suitable for creating a texture for a model in STP or IGES formats?

Good afternoon.
I need to make a texture for an item that will be printed before the item is molded. Factories ask for a model in STP or IGES format for making molds and when they finish working on the model, they will give me all these files. I myself have not worked in 3D editors, so I need advice.
Please tell me in what programs I can open these files in order to take some kind of scan to work with the texture, then try it on the model, adjust the texture and so on until the final. Can I ask the modeler for some other format to work with the texture? Or are there other features of this process?
It is also important that this case be pulled by my laptop (video built-in Intel 4600 and gt 750M). In principle, I do not plan to render the picture, but for approval with the customer, you can get by with screenshots of the program window.

Hi.
is this a project with a model of a volcano?
CAD formats aren't really meant for pretty textures - that's for geometry.
but you can apply a texture - either save a copy in STL / OBJ and apply a texture to it.
Now the second question - how will the texture be transferred to the finished product?
