I heard that you can buy an already activated SIM card at the metro station, is that so? ... In general, what can you advise in this regard, I will be in Moscow for the first time.

Each operator has its own TPs and they are all approximately the same. Personally, for me, I would buy some kind of MTS connection (in my opinion, 590 rubles along with a modem), because I think that MTS has a better coverage area. If cost is more important than quality, look elsewhere.

Exactly. Almost at every step there are trays with SIM cards. No registration. Buy and use. Any rates to choose from. They also sell modems, if necessary.
In terms of coverage, I would advise Beeline: it catches even everywhere in the subway, unlike MTS, which breaks off, or Megafon, which generally works well in the subway in few places. MTS is cheaper than Beeline.

If a laptop and a modem, then you need to look at "modem" tariffs, each operator has them, and then you decide for yourself whether speed, price or unlimited is more important.

Everything is bad with the mobile Internet (the girl has Beeline on the iPad. We live in Zelenograd. There is no 3g here at all (the phone with a megaphone catches), the edge is very slow, one name. Megaphone tariffs are terrible, MTS is even worse.

I have all three. I mostly sit on the beeline. If everything is already completely bad, I change my SIM cards :). And at least one works 100%, I still think on Wimax but haven’t gone bankrupt yet ...
I really like the tariffs from Comstar, unlike Yota, they have traffic tariffs, and because I use the Internet only on the road, and this happens no more than a day in a week, then I don’t need unlimited for 900r, and paying everyone 500-900r will be more expensive than wired Internet. Comstar says coverage is better, but can't say yet.
