What literature or other resources to study in order to have a basic understanding of the correct web design?

I'm currently reading The Art of Elephant Washing. I read several articles in the "Bureau", I saw there they have some kind of expensive books, and the question arose whether they were worth it at all? .I want to learn the basic principles of website design so that when I want to change something in other people's themes / layouts for websites, I change it into a theme so that it is not only functional, but also not outrageous (just by typing through 100 fonts until I don’t like it, I think not quite the best solution). As I understand it, everything revolves around: fonts, colors, and the location of blocks of different significance. Here's how to do it correctly actually and I want to understand. There is no desire to climb straight into the depths of the desire, but I really want to understand the basic things / Advise the resources where the base will be explained.

It's not all about "...fonts, colors, and block placement." Everything revolves around the task of the project and the emotion that you want to convey. For example, a bar serif can convey the emotion of reliability, blue professionalism, etc. Each font has its own emotion and purpose. I can’t imagine how you want to learn the basics of typography, composition, color, block layout without really delving into it. I myself have not read many books, and if I recommend some of the books, then you still have to go deeper. And I've taken a lot of courses. The WDI school teaches the basic principles of design best of all. They have a series of short videos on these topics.
