What literature on Wordpress is worth reading?

I want to learn Wordpress inside and out. What could you advise on this matter, which author should you pay attention to? Let's just say that I have basic knowledge, but I want to get acquainted with the development on this engine: how to write a plugin, how to make your own theme, etc.

Wordpress is just a tool, and not a very big one. More than enough to read the documentation and climb the code. Try to track the entire request processing process from the index.php file to page rendering in the code and you will be able to write a book yourself :) This will take you a day at worst.
Better study php in general and wordpress will seem to you a very small and compact tool well suited for "your" tasks, without fanaticism to write everything on it.
