I doubt that you will be lucky and a user of the same hardware will randomly answer here
Start with extreme ubunt and centos on liveCD / usb
And move through all the distros up to www.damnsmalllinux.org until you get what you need
Without DE on your hardware is quite start extreme server ubunta

In text mode (without a browser, of course) - it will be quite normal.
From undemanding Linux - BunsenLab.
Or - even more nimble, but not Linux - Haiku OS.
But a modern browser needs a lot of RAM.

Puppy Linux , Damn Small Linux , Knoppix if they are still alive. You can also try antiX . You can use the same Debian , especially if you build it manually via debootstrap without DE.
You can save on OP using not DE, but WM - now i3 is in vogue, but you will have to finish a lot for yourself. Well, not to use Chrome and Fox, but some kind of Midori or Pale Moon

Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Arch (if you don't litter), Debian XFCE and many others. For a dinosaur from DE, XFCE, LXDE and terminal are the best.

We go to Google and look at the approximate release time of this mother (determined by the date of the last BIOS for her). Then we go and look for a distribution approximately compatible in time, because nothing from the modern one will work.
DE is only the most lightweight - LXDE, XFCE and others. I like XFCE for the skinniest computers.
