What Linux technologies should a network engineer know?

I know for sure that a network engineer needs to know Linux. Actually the question is: what exactly? I don't think that installing Arch/Gentoo will help me understand networks more (or will it help? -_-), so what kind of knowledge in Linux "reinforced concrete" does a BEGINNING network engineer need? Do you have a sample list of keywords?

1. Console commands
2. the ability to at least parse what is written in scripts (files), write your own (bach, sh, Python, ...)
3. how to say that correctly ... - protocol stack - Network model
4. Service services - HTTP, FTP, POP3, IMAP, MySQL....

Ask the employer what he means by "knowledge of linux" for a specific position

Base and popular utilities at least and network tools. Yes, in which case on some gaia os you will have to tune the tcp / ip stack and rebuild the kernel with the necessary parameters. You will also have to tune the stack on Windows with registry keys. Determine what the plug is, how to deal with tcp overloads at different stages. You need to have an idea about everything, not necessarily too detailed, you do not need to know the fundamental differences between zfs and xfs, but you need to know what inodes are.
But each employer can be different, all of a sudden you're just going to turn bgp and rules through the console - xs, or maybe only access rules and protection.
Suddenly from Linux you will only need the ability to raise strong swan and iperf'om speed to measure xs.

If you are talking about an interview, then knowledge is not necessary. If directly about work, then basic Commands, working with the shell, setting up network interfaces, editing caffeine. At least in order to conveniently work with terminal servers, and in general, familiarize yourself with the culture of working on the command line. The rest is googled, for example "Linux bgp".

I have no idea what Linux has to do with _network engineers_. Yes, there are network hardware on it, but this is far from the first thing that comes to mind. Usually, after all, they start with the default one - cisco, juniper and further down the list.
