HTML5 + CSS + Adobe Photoshop + basic principles of design, typography, animation, etc.
In general, you cannot become a good web layout designer in a couple of months. This is a continuous improvement of skills.

The bulk of the tasks that are thrown off for freelancing are to make up a template for WordPress, Drupal or Bitrix, stick the design to an online store, and so on, where, it seems, you don’t have to do much, but the customer himself (usually the same individual entrepreneur or freelancer ) no time to understand.
Then there are various non-IT-oriented companies that need to quickly place their contacts and start buying advertising in Direct, which for you, most likely, turns into another outdated and long abandoned CMS creators.
And only then there are people who are really looking for a layout designer (or front-end developer) for remote work. Simple layout is no longer enough here.
It may not be necessary to know javascript perfectly here, but it is definitely worth understanding how JQuery, Bootstrap and other modern libraries and frameworks work. However, sooner or later you will have to deal with server languages, because not all customers know where the layout designer's work ends and the server code begins. So if I were you, I would definitely take care of reading the documentation for the same PHP or Python.
And of course, where without your favorite Photoshop'a! It is unlikely that at first you will come across a designer who knows how to properly work with the web and export graphics, so, most likely, you will have to cut and finish individual things with your own hands.
One way or another, one stupid HTML / CSS today is no longer enough, as I already wrote .

If you are friends with design, in terms of fantasy and drawing, then you can easily make finished products for sale.

The fact that freelancing is full of customers who dream of paying an unmeasured amount of dough for low-skilled work is a common misconception.
Firstly, good specialists are now in great demand . And the office can get a lot.
Secondly, freelancing is not smeared with honey. Read at least here on the Toaster: half (more qualified specialists) claim that everything is fine with them, the other half (not qualified specialists) whine that there are penny orders and fastidious customers.
Thirdly, in order to quickly become a qualified specialist, you need to work in the office. But not anywhere, but in the office of a strong IT company.
Fourthly, if you immediately start freelancing from scratch, you will grow much more slowly than if you start after several years of offline work experience.
Fifth, both sums are ridiculous. 200-300 dollars in the office have not been paid for qualified work for a long time (the amount is underestimated 2-3 times). A qualified specialist, even in the offline regions, earns from $ 1,000 in the very minimum case. and 1.5-2 thousand dollars is a ridiculous amount for a qualified specialist (underestimated by 2-3 times). for a normal freelancer, 3000-5000 dollars is quite a normal amount.
Sixthly, if you start with freelancing, you will get stuck there for 1.5-2, 3 strength. Forever. Or at least for a long time. You need to go into freelancing after several years of experience, as you call "in the office". Then it's a quick start. And completely different money.
