What kind of server is needed for the WordPress grid?

A grid of sites is planned, mainly on wordpress. On vestacp panel.
Each will have some traffic, naturally cached by the plugin.

For example, I look at OVH and their soyoustart.
ECC memory gives something tangible?
Better than an SSD anyway?
Processor power, Cores / Threads how relevant, or bet on the amount of memory?

And maybe someone on OVH knows how ovh.ie differs from soyoustart?
On the second iron is less reliable and that's it? That is, just back up.

I would only look at the amount of memory and the channel in such a config. WordPress with a configured cache usually does not rest on the processor. SSD all the more do not care.

You will have enough VDS server for your eyes, which is provided on SSD disks.
Many provide a channel in 100M, so this factor is also not very important.

ECC memory gives something tangible?
Depends on the criticality of uninterrupted operation.
If uninterrupted operation is a priority, and even a small downtime is unacceptable, then it is necessary, in other cases, do not care.
Better than an SSD anyway?
Of course better. But not the fact that everything will rest against the disk.
besides, it strongly depends on the content, and on the sites themselves.

RAM - from 2Gb
CPU - from 2x
SSD cores - necessarily
Channel - the thicker the better :)
On such hardware, WordPress Multisite will rustle perfectly with dozens of sites, if they don't drive river traffic. If the load grows, you will have to scale the server, which is quite normal.
Well, if you use Nginx + PHP-FPM instead of Apache + PHP (version 5.5.9+ so that the native OPcache is), and even add Memcached / Redis, and replace MySQL with MariaDB10 - it will rustle noticeably more fun, withstand much larger loads. And you can leave PHP-FPM behind Nginx exclusively as a fallback, and put HHVM in front of it. It will speed it up even more. Well, the faster the server works and withstands heavy loads, the more sites you can hang on it or drive more traffic. That is, to noticeably postpone the moment of upgrading the hardware and save yourself some money for beer, for children for sweets and for your wife for flowers. If you correctly tune all the components mentioned, then there will be enough for condoms.

For these purposes, I can advise you a VPS server from us prohoster.info/vps/ssd-vps. Prices from 1$. All servers have DDOS protection and SSD, also a very good channel.
