What is Vue Storefront?

I own a small online store on the Magento 1.9 engine. Considering migration options (2.3, Shopify, etc.) I came across Vue Storefront
. If I understand correctly, this replaces the front-end of the store, making it more manageable and faster, leaving the back-end (management of orders, goods, etc.
) topic, write what it is and why you need it? What are the disadvantages, nuances? Information in Russian is not found.
Does it make sense to hire a programmer to install and configure Vue Storefront instead of switching to another engine?
Still, in terms of functionality, Shopify lags behind, and the Magento 2.3 version is still damp.
In the current store, I am not satisfied with the speed of loading pages and a bunch of errors in the theme files that have accumulated during various modifications by not very professional programmers.

If I understand correctly, this replaces the front-end of the store, making it more manageable and faster, leaving the back-end (management of orders, goods, etc.)

This is a separate Front that works with Magento via API
High speed of the site, very high. With PWA technology
At the moment, only the beginning of the development of the project, raw. Much will have to be implemented independently.
In the future with investments in development - yes, if the store generates income that more than covers development costs.
If you just need an e-commerce solution, then it's better to move from 1.9 to 2.x
Version 2.2 is quite stable today. PageBuilder appeared in 2.3, but these are just frills against the general background.
The current store has nothing to do with download speed and programmers. You can get such problems when using absolutely any software by making the same mistakes.
These problems are solved by caching and hiring appropriate specialists who are well versed in the system and adhere to the development recommendations from Magento.
