What is UML and what is RUP?

As I understand it, RUP is a development technique, UML is a schematic language for describing this technique, and many other techniques can be described in UML? Any good resources on RUP?

Roop-zashkvar, the most inflexible development methodology, requires dozens of roles to work and has a bunch of limitations. It is used perhaps only in very large corporations, and then, I doubt it.
Now everything is moving towards agile methodologies, Scrum and Kanban. Rare XP
