What is TTL? And what is the difference between 64 and 128?

What is TTL? I know that TTL is 128 on computers, and 64 on mobile phones. I set TTL 64 on my computer and the Internet connection has not changed in any way. So what's the difference, what is your TTL, if it doesn't affect anything?

Briefly, TTL sets the packet lifetime. When passing through the router, the TTL is reduced by one, if the TTL of the packet is equal to one, then such a packet is not routed further, but is discarded. In other words, a packet with a TTL of 64 will travel at most 64 routers. You can see how many routers are on the way from one system to another using the tracepath/tracert/traceroute utilities. Usually on the Internet no more than 20-30 routers overcome the packet even to very remote systems.
