What is this area of programming?

Good Evening. I ask you not to throw slippers, I want to ask this thing: Recently , I
like everything related to network protocols, I read about them, I would like to learn how to raise various servers. As I understand it, this is a backend for the web? But I noticed that many ask for a backend and knowledge from the front end. Which area of programming should I choose?

Backend is everything that is hidden from the user's eyes - the entire server part of the application with databases, data preparation, analysis, parallel computing.
Frontend is everything the user interacts with - all sorts of pretty things and checks for user actions like "You forgot to fill in the phone number."
So network protocols are used in both Frontend and Backend.

Backend + Frontend is only requested for simple projects.
In complex projects, the requirements for qualification are higher and therefore the customer / employer understands that only a person specializing in something can become highly qualified in some sub-field.
Therefore, for complex projects, it is enough to be only a front-end specialist or only a back-end specialist.
Network protocols are parallel to this. Both frontend and backend work with the network. The backend deals with the network more explicitly.

In general, I noticed a tendency to blur the boundaries between frontend and backend, the same nodeJS, this is both frontend and backend in JavaScript. Perhaps the backend will forever remain the same as the frontend.
But your question is more like: I love brickwork, I like to dig trenches, I don’t know, maybe I can become an artist ...
These are generally two different topics, if you have the ability, you can easily master both sides.
Although, in essence, the front. and tank. very close. The frontend is the interface for interacting with the system, the backend, it can be written in one language or in different ones. But I, for example, am not a frontend, because I am not an artist. No, I do sometimes. Once the customer asked to align the text according to certain principles. Now I know that they exist, but this is not mine, but someone without knowing any principles will do everything beautifully. The same applies to the usability aspects of the interface. I mostly work in the terminal, the frontend that I will make will look more like a receipt from the supermarket.
