Everything is relative.
A hardware RAID controller is a board with a processor and its own operating system that virtualizes an array of disks and distributes virtual volumes over the bus (PCI[Express]). They are seen by the host operating system as one / several disks.
QNAP - This is a box with a processor and its own operating system, which virtualizes an array of disks and distributes virtual volumes over the network.

В интернетах везде пишут, что программный. Являясь владельцем однотипного Netgear-овского NAS, вижу там тоже стандартный mdadm. А что за модель с перемычками?

аппаратный как можно переключая перемычки на задней стенке корпуса программно настраивать рейд ?
