What is the purpose of the Mac Address Table in a router?

Hello! :)
Guys, the D-Link DES-1100-24 router has the following settings:
- [Security]
- - [MAC Address Table]
- - - Static MAC
- - - Dynamic Forwarding Table
I'm still getting used to "networks", if possible - describe in more detail why the settings for MAC addresses are generally on routers, or throw yourself a manual - otherwise I can’t find anything sensible. :)

This is not a router, but a switch, and a rather lousy one at that. To understand why you need these parameters and what you can do with them, read the wiki about switches. In short, dynamic mac is what the piece of iron learns automatically, static is what you can set yourself by hand.
