What is the performance of RoR on highload applications and how does RoR behave with really large databases?

Good day, dear community.
There was a desire to learn a new programming language and after some reviews I fell in love with Ruby on Rails. Actually, in Google, I could not find the normal information presented for a beginner in Ruby. That is why I want to ask for advice from professionals - where to read, what to read, where to start. In ruby, I am 0. My main direction is JavaScript, I also know at a level slightly higher than the initial PHP.
The answers to the following questions are also of interest:
- How does ruby perform on high load applications?
How is Ruby with databases, really big databases?
I would be grateful for any advice.

Of course , Ruby on Rails Guides of course will not be enough, but you will often look there.
In the beginning:
Courses from Lynda, explain everything in some detail
Ruby Essential Training The Basics of Ruby
Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training The
Basics of Rails Shorter courses from tutsplus, the amount of knowledge is almost the same as the courses above, but it is delivered more dynamically .
The Fundamentals of Ruby The Basics of Ruby
Riding Ruby on Rails The Basics of Rails
After any course, it is desirable to take the Rails for Zombies Redux course at codeschool, it is free, after each video there is an interactive ( how right? :)) performance of tasks, well fixes the material.
There is also http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ But I don’t like the author’s presentation, he speaks too slowly, writes a lot of tests, which is complete darkness for a beginner, it’s better to watch it for general development, when you already have at least something in ruby and rails fumble. He also has a book on these video lessons, if you read it on the site it's free. Although the first episode is still worth watching, there is how to deploy the application on heroku to see how it works in production or show someone what they wrote.
Books:
Agile Web Development with Rails (Pragmatic Programmers)
I give in English, as there are practically no normal materials in Russian. hasbrains.ru what was written above, perhaps, but books, as always, translations are late and not always the terms are translated correctly.
It seems to me that the video is better absorbed, visually look at the code and immediately show you the result. But books are also worth reading. I just think the video for review is faster.
Good luck.

Information on Ruby is just a sea.
tryruby.org

ruby.hasbrains.ru
rubykoans.com
nashbridges.me
rails.hasbrains.ru

ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby- on-rails-tutorial-book
Just found cspp52553.com/ This is a Rails web development course currently running at the University of Chicago. I really like it, but the only trouble is that there are no audio recordings or videos, but only slides.

For starters, you can watch screencasts in Russian - hasbrains.ru/ on ruby and rails and of course books, for example www.labirint.ru/reviews/goods/329964/
Well, in English there is just a sea of materials.

I can’t imagine how I would have studied ruby without English, because the following materials will be useful to people who speak the language.
My favorite Ruby book is this one: Mr. Neighborly's Humble Little Ruby Book .
Well, on ruby metaprogramming: Metaprogramming Ruby .
In general, O'Reilly books are very good, so I advise.

It's normal for Rails with highload, you can just say it's good and the future is even better.
There would be smart people who know and can write and everything is fine.
If they don’t know how to use rails, but they know how to use python or php, then they are also normal.
Twitter and Coub don't complain
