In computer graphics, this is called corny Affine transformations.
In fact, we take points (photo) in 2D, add a coordinate along the Z axis to it, then we multiply these 3D coordinates by the vector (transformation matrix) we need. After we have multiplied, we cut off our Z coordinate, project it onto a 2D screen. Here, for volume, it looks like they added a couple more pixels in Z, or just a shadow creates such a feeling.
