I don't think there's anything better in books than The Official Curriculum . And there is also an official guide from Adobe - voluminous and free.
Or do you already know about them?

True, there under CS2. But for me and for my level, it was the best fit. It is easy to read, the examples are even more interesting. As I began to read it, I put the rest of the books away so that they would not embarrass me with their authority.
I like to read and do. And in this book everything is set out in such a way that you can read and do. Only photoshop should be in English interfaces, you will make examples faster, and at the same time you will learn English.
I am tormented by vague suspicions that many top web designers started their journey into the world of creativity and colors from this book.

IMHO. The best, no books and no video tutorials. And just text tutorials on Photoshop.
The most effective, in my opinion, are lessons on effects. There you often need to cut a lot, use many combinations of filters, layers, curves, masks, and so on.
What are the advantages:
- We immediately get the essence, without water and introductory.
- No need to wait for the author's explanation as a video that wastes our time.
- Through practice and repetition, we will very, very quickly master all the elements of both Photoshop itself and, in the course of the lessons, we will master the principle of operation of many filters, and already somewhere in 10-20 evenings the pens will reach for something of their own to experiment.
